Overview & Reviews
The base trim level has been dropped. The 2.7-liter V6 is now standard (the LX still gets the 3.5-liter V6), as is an automatic transmission. Also newly standard this year are four-wheel antilock brakes and traction control. Exterior changes include a new grille surround, side cladding, taillamps, tailgate handle, rear bumper design and alloy wheels. Inside, there is new seat fabric, an upgraded two-tone color scheme and a revised instrument cluster. A power driver seat is now standard on the LX, and a compass is included with the optional sunroof.
- Reasonable price, strong warranty, roomy interior, long list of standard features, solid construction, good crash test scores.
- Thirsty at the pump for a small car-based SUV, soft suspension limits handling ability.

An opinion - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By Tee - February 21 - 1:20 pmLess than 12,000 miles and the valves are rattling unless I run premium gasoline. Gas mileage is about what they say as long as I run premium. Otherwise, gas mileage is about 25% less than they claim. Interior rattles coming from who knows where, but very irritating. Brakes are squeaking as if I need brake pads already -- surely not, but gotta have it checked out.

Nice appearance for a piece of junk - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By mikeb - May 13 - 4:56 amI bought the most expensive Hyundai I had higher expectations due to false advertising. Lower gas mileage than advertised I get 16 miles a gallon highway. Dealership says its the additives in the gas that only affects Santa Fe B.S. High cost for maintenance and the car runs worse with every service they do. The transfer case was just replaced and its still making grinding noises and the gear shift needed to be replaced as well, frozen wipers wont move even my small economy car had good wipers. I could go on but there may not be enough space here...very dissatisfied. I wish I could get my money back!

hate it - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By conway - September 11 - 8:33 amhorrid accelarator...NO GAS MILEAGE!!!! does not get 17 city...must read the very fine print on the window sticker to see that it will actually get 11 to 13miles per gallon, and that was only pointed out to us by the service dept when we took it in for adjustments. passenger air bag is all but impossible to activate. must be sitting in exactly correct position to even get it turned on and, so far, we have only been able to activate it 3 times. if in a crash, it would be useless....when driving at low speeds and trying to maintain a constant speed, the ride is jerky and very distracting.

Bad gas mileage - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
By Winter - April 15 - 7:46 amMy driving experience is the SUV handles fine, the check engine light has been on since two weeks after purchase have never had time to take it in. Not a vehicle for commute the gas mileage sucks for this I go through over $100 a week in gas. It handles well in snow though I bought it for that very reason and I am thankful that works well.
